Balaban managed to make eight appearances for Aston Villa without scoring a goal.
Villa Chairman Doug Ellis, who is notoriously tight with his money, splashed the cash for Balaban in 2001 but saw no return on his money. Villa lost patience with the striker and sent him on his way. This looked a little bit foolish as he enjoyed a number of prolific spells before retiring in 2012.
