QPR Vs Newcastle United - Premier League Head-To-Head Analysis

3. Goalkeepers: Rob Green (QPR) Vs Tim Krul (NUFC)

There's no doubting that the goalkeepers could play a key role in this one - because QPR and Newcastle have the two leakiest defences in the entire Premier League. Newcastle have conceded 61 goals this season, while QPR have let in a Premier League-high of 67 (including six at the Etihad last weekend). Rob Green has been in stellar form this campaign, despite conceding so many goals, and is even reportedly close to agreeing a switch to Chelsea - so impressive has he been. Tim Krul, meanwhile, has certainly not been at his best for the Magpies this year and will hope to he can contribute a clean sheet to ensure Newcastle maintain their Premier League status at Loftus Road.
Krul has appeared just the 28 times for Newcastle this season due to injuries but has kept seven clean sheets, an average of one every four matches. However, Krul has not kept a clean sheet since February 28th, when the Magpies last won a match. Green on the other hand has appeared in all but one of QPR's games this season, but he has kept just the six clean sheets. In terms of average goals conceded, Krul also edges that (1.51 per game to 1.83 per game). Yet Green leads the way in terms of saves per game (3.26 to 2), claim success rate (98% compared to 96%) and clearances per match (1 to 0.7). Both keepers are pretty evenly matched overall though.
Verdict: This is an extremely difficult decision, and in reality it is probably a coinflip. At his very best, Krul would shade it - but the Dutchman is nowhere near his top form right now, and so it is a 50-50 decision.
