Rafael Nadal Reigns Supreme Against Novak Djokovic In French Open Final

The rain at Roland Garros did nothing to stop Rafael Nadal beating World No.1 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in a two day thriller.

The rain at Roland Garros did nothing to stop Rafael Nadal beating World No.1 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in a two day thriller. History was guaranteed to be made on the French Open€™s Phillipe Chatrier court today. Either, Rafael Nadal would become the first ever man to win seven French Open titles, taking him one ahead of Bjorn Bjorg, or Novak Djokovic would become the first man in fourty-three years to win four consecutive grand slams. The two men had met each other in the previous three grand slam finals, all of which Djokovic had won. However, Nadal is a different kind of animal on the French Open€™s clay surface. This was a match of truly epic proportions. It was the Spaniard, Nadal, who flew out of the traps taking the first two rain interrupted sets 6-4, 6-3. Looking like the match may end in a swift three set victory, Djokovic began to show why he is the world number one. He won eight games in a row to take the third set 6-2 and a gaining a break of serve in the fourth at 2-0. The match was beginning to live up to the hype. With Nadal holding his serve at 2-1, the rain once again delayed play. The match was set for a conclusion on Monday. With the rain cleared, the two men emerged today to conclude the match. Players are always tested as much mentally as they are physically when the elements interrupt matches. It was Rafael Nadal who managed to recompose himself and take the initiative on the second day of play. Nadal broke Djokovic back immediately and won the set 7-5 and therefore the championship with Novak Djokovic serving a double fault on the very last point. Rafael Nadal showed how much his 7th French Open title meant to him by climbing into the stands to be with his family and team. Not only did he become the only man in history to achieve this monumental number on Roland Garros titles, but after three consecutive grand slam final defeats to Novak Djokovic, Nadal has exacted revenge on the court where he so perfectly dominates.
