Ranking Atletico Madrid's 10 Best Strikers From The 21st Century
4. Diego Forlan
Another famous journeyman, the best years of Diego Forlan's club career came during his time in Spain. He emerged as one of the finest young strikers while at Villarreal, before elevating his game further at Atletico Madrid.
In the 2008/09 season particularly, the Uruguayan was at the peak of his powers. He won the European Golden Boot for 32 goals in the league, whilst also making further 10 assists. In the next season, Forlan propelled the Rojiblancos to Europa League glory and even scored twice in the finals.
His form, however, inexplicably dropped in the fourth year and that eventually sounded the death knell on his time at Madrid. He left in the summer of 2011 after 196 games and 96 goals in all competitions, whilst also winning two club and individual honors each.
Since then, he played for six different sides in as many different leagues before hanging up his boots in 2017.
