Ranking Every Liverpool Transfer Under Jürgen Klopp
13. Loris Karius
The final verdict on Karius is straightforward: he's not good enough. He never really was.
Signed for only £6M, fresh off being named Bundesliga's second best goalkeeper of the season behind Manuel Neuer, he looked a wise acquisition. But, just as a backroom staff member from Mainz put it, Karius has been unrecognisable since joining Liverpool. He's had his moments some say. But did he? Karius can claim two decent spells, one in autumn 2016 and one in the first five months of 2018. The first one ended in disaster at Bournemouth, the second ended in Kiev's embarrassment.
It's not just his mistakes. These happen: Alisson nonsensically gave a goal away at Leicester four games into this season. But he, unlike Karius, gives an enduring sense of composure and security to the team. The German is currently playing in the Turkish Süper Lig, and that he doesn't fly high above the rest of keepers says it all. Put Alisson in that Besiktas team and they'd probably win the league, or at the very least they'd concede the fewest goals. Put Karius in this Liverpool team, and Tottenham surely would've scored one or two in the final.
