Ranking Liverpool's Starting XI From Real Madrid Defeat

11. Lazar Markovic

Of all Liverpool's summer signings, the one who has struggled to adapt to life on Merseyside the most is Markovic. And yes, that includes Dejan Lovren. The 20-year-old is seen by many as one of Europe's brightest young stars- his nomination for the European Golden Boy award proves that- but at the moment he is not at the races at all. Against Madrid he was on the periphery of things for large chunks of the game, but when he did get an opportunity to impress going forward, he simply ran in a straight line before being inevitably robbed of possession. At one point he tried to outrun the fantastic Raphael Varane, but the French centre-back made it look like a tussle between a 30-year-old at his peak and an 11-year-old boy. On a night when others around him flourished, Markovic disappointed hugely.
