Ranking Newcastle's Transfer Dealings 2014-15 - Outgoings
11. Shola Ameobi - Released (Signed For Gaziantep BB And Then Crystal Palace)
Season Rating: 5 Success Of Sale Rating: 5 Shola Ameobi finally departed from Newcastle United after 14 years at the club last summer having scored 79 goals in 397 appearances. Released at the end of his contract, Ameobi departed for Gaziantep BB in the Turkish second division, where he scored a reasonable four goals in 11 appearances before deciding he wanted to return to England. Reunited with Alan Pardew when Crystal Palace signed him on a free transfer, Shola made just four appearances for the Eagles throughout the campaign. At 33 his time as a starter has probably passed, but Newcastle were struggling for senior figures during the latter half of the season - and if Ameobi had still been on Tyneside then he may have been a key figure in the dressing room. The Magpies certainly didn't miss his goals - or lack thereof - but they did miss him as a senior figure.
