Ranking The Best Football Transfers In Europe During Summer 2019/20
23. Kieran Tierney - Arsenal
It might seem strange that the purchase of a left back has been so high on Arsenal's priorities this summer, especially as they've already got Nacho Monreal and Saed Kolasinac filling that role. However, any Arsenal fan will tell you that neither player seemed to fit into Unai Emery's preferred system of 4-2-3-1.
The purchase of Scottish left back, Kieran Tierney, should give fans of the Gunners something to be excited about, as he gives Emery a proper option at left back, which should help resolve some of horrible defensive issues from last season.
Firstly, he's got a versatility in his play that Kolasinac and Monreal don't. As a wing back, Kolasinac has less responsibility defensively, but when he's played in a back four, he's not as effective and is a bit of a defensive liability. Tierney, however, can do the defensive work and offer another attacking option on the left side of the pitch too.
The 22-year old does have some injury problems that raise concern. However, if he can stay injury free he'll be a fine addition to an Arsenal backline that really needs strengthening.
