Ranking The Best Football Transfers In Europe During Summer 2019/20
5. Frenkie De Jong - Barcelona
Barcelona have always been known for having an exceptional and complete midfield. However, with the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets hitting the twilight of their careers, the Catalan giants will need to freshen up the centre of the park.
Following a thrilling season at Ajax, Barcelona decided to purchase Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong from the Champions League semi-finalists and all signs point to it being an astute piece of business.
Blessed with exceptional passing and dribbling skills, De Jong should fit right into the Barcelona squad alongside Rakitic, Busquets and Arthur. Although a more defensively minded player than Arthur, De Jong is the more versatile player of the two young midfielders as he's able to play a variety of different roles in the midfield. Think of him as a new age Andrea Pirlo.
He showed plenty of these qualities during Ajax's surprisingly successful Champions League journey during the 2017/18 season. Whether or not he can replicate this form in front of the fans in the Nou Camp remains to be seen, but there's no doubting that he's a very talented player.
