Sheffield United 2-2 Newcastle United - Player Ratings

10. Georginio Wijnaldum - 7 (Replaced By Siem De Jong After 73 Minutes)

Two starts, two goals - that is not a bad return at all for Newcastle's new £14.5 million man. Wijnaldum was involved from the get go, playing a key part in the move than led to Papiss Cisse curling an effort off the post after only 90 seconds, and he showed touches of class that the rest of the Newcastle squad are simply incapable of producing. Quiet at times, Wijnaldum slotted in as a No 10 behind Cisse, with Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez either side of him, but he struggled as the Magpies failed to win enough possession to make him effective enough. Mind, on saying that, he reacted brilliantly to slot in the opener after Cisse had been denied by George Long. His curled, side-footed shot showed immense composure.

Siem De Jong - 7

After coming on the 73rd minute, De Jong actually looked like he was struggling to match up to the pace in the middle of the park to begin with. However, he gave Newcastle a 79th-minute lead by smashing in from six yards from a corner, and he also had a chance late on as he nodded the ball just over the bar.
