Following midweek European performances in which both of the competing teams bagged five goals (albeit against far inferior opposition), this match was expected to be something of a goal-fest. That wasn't to be, however, as two sets of resolute defenders held out brilliantly against the threat of the likes of Roberto Soldado, Michu, Nacer Chadli and Wilfried Bony.
