Spurs: 3 Things AVB Should Do To Stop The Rot

1. Give Roberto Soldado Some Support

Wingers cutting inside all the time (Andros Townsend) or failing to turn up like Aaron Lennon and Erik Lamela, and attacking midfielder players putting in equally anonymous performances €“ it's no wonder the Spurs striker struggles to score.

If Tottenham's team were a hotel, Roberto Soldado would be asking for his money back! The service into him really has been that poor. It is baffling to us that AVB would pay a handsome fee to bring him in from Valencia and then persist with playing in a way that goes against his strengths.

How long will it take the Hotspur head coach to realize it? Maybe that thrashing by City will be the wake-up call desperately needed, but something must change. When you have a fox in the box like Soldado it's a shame not to let the poacher produce. Again the solution involves flying in the face of fashion. Traditional wingplay will result in goals for Soldado, but AVB must abandon this indulgent attitude he has had toward Townsend and others. Selfishly shooting on sight from outside the box hurts the team. Support has also been lacking from the centre. The tweaking suggested above would help address that. Perhaps Mousa Dembele and Paulinho, given greater freedom, would get closer to Soldado. Lewis Holtby needs to buck up his ideas too. Christian Eriksen would be handy here as well when he returns from injury. Whether Soldado needs to do more as an individual is also a big question. The Daily Mail's heat map of his harrowing hour leading the Tottenham line is a serious indictment of him, but AVB should have known the type of player he was getting.
