Andros Townsend is refusing to get carried away amidst the hype surrounding his incredible recent form and is determined to keep his feet on the ground. The speedy Spurs winger has had a very impressive season up to now, after having previously been loaned out no less than nine times by his parent club. His form was recognised by England boss Roy Hodgson, who gave him a call-up to the England squad for the final two matches in England's successful World Cup qualifying campaign. Indeed, Townsend scored on his England debut against Montenegro last week, earning the Man of the Match award in a 4-1 victory, before also impressing in the decisive 2-0 victory against Poland on Tuesday. He was subsequently rewarded with a new four-year contract by Spurs on Friday - a £16,000 a week deal that sees him more than double his previous earnings - and immediately repaid Spurs' loyalty with a great performance against Aston Villa on Sunday. Townsend scored the opener in a 2-0 victory at Villa Park when his cross curled inside the post on 31 minutes. He impressed all game, terrorising the Villa defence - particularly in the second half - and earned himself another Man of the Match award for his efforts. However, Townsend remained humble and had this to say to Sky Sports after the match at Villa Park:
"It's been one of the best few weeks of my life, but the main thing today was getting back to winning ways after the result against West Ham. "I think the second-half performance showed what we're all about. We got stuck in and got three points. "I think we didn't have the best of first halves. Aston Villa defended well and got men behind the ball, but then we got the goal. "It was a cross and I'm not going to take credit for it, but I've been unlucky in the past, so I'll take that and it set us on the way to a great three points. "Obviously, scoring for my country on my debut was one of the highlights of my career, but getting my first goal for my home-town club in the Premier League is up there. "The main thing for me now is to not get carried away, to keep my feet on the ground and keep putting in the performances when I get the chance for Spurs."
With that kind of attitude, Townsend clearly isn't resting on his laurels - and that can only be good for both Tottenham Hotspur and the England national football team. Source:Sky Sports
