Spurs Best Overseas XI Of The Premier League Era

The cream of the non-British crop at White Hart Lane since 1992.

Having recently published a similar article about the best English Spurs eleven of the Premier League era, we thought we'd take the logical next step. Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have had some great players in the Premier League era and the majority of the ones who spring to mind first aren't English. Gareth Bale aside, most of Spurs' real non-English superstars of the last 22 years have come from overseas. Given that Spurs have actually been very faithful to English players in the Premier League era - much more so than the other clubs who regularly hover around the top six of the Premier League - the fact that the majority of their better players aren't from England really does highlight the shortage of top class English talent in the modern game and the damage that the huge influx of foreign imports are doing to the English national team. In this article, we're going to highlight the level of foreign talent that Spurs have possessed in the modern football age by putting together a hypothetical team of the best they've had to offer in that regard. Here is the best overseas Spurs eleven of the Premier League era (in a 4-4-2 formation)...

11. Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris

French international captain and former Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is the best player currently at White Hart Lane and undoubtedly the best goalkeeper the club has had - full stop - since the Premier League began.

He is an absolutely brilliant professional who, as well as being a great shot-stopper, also has great reflexes, great distribution abilities and excellent sweeper skills.

Lloris recently put pen to paper by signing a new five year deal with Spurs, much to the delight of the fans, but there is only so much longer he can wait around at a club who aren't in the Champions League - as that's where he deserves to be playing - so Spurs must qualify for Europe's elite club competition this season, whether it be through the Premier League or the Europa League.

Since joining Spurs in 2012, Lloris has made 67 Premier League appearances - all of which have come from the start - as well as fifteen appearances in other competitions.

He beats the likes of Erik Thorstvedt, Radek Cerny, Kasey Keller, Brad Friedel and Heurelho Gomes to this slot.
