Spurs Face Besiktas In Europa League Draw

Lilywhites go up against the team Arsenal beat in the Champions League play-off.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have been drawn against Turkish side Besiktas in Group C of the Europa League group stage. Besiktas dropped in to the Europa League after Spurs' bitter North London rivals Arsenal defeated them 1-0 over two legs of a Champions League play-off earlier this week and they now face another trip to England to go up against Mauricio Pochettino's in-form side. The Lilywhites also face FC Partizan of Serbia and Asteras Tripolis of Greece in their group. It is a group the club will be expected to come through fairly comfortably and it also sees Spurs having to travel a lot less further than they did at the same stage of the competition last year, as they endured arduous trips to Russia to face Anzhi Makhachkala, to Moldova to face Sheriff Tiraspol and to Norway to face Tromso. The biggest threats to Spurs in the group are undoubtedly Besiktas - a side who gave Arsenal a torrid time over two legs and boast former Premier League players like Demba Ba and Kerim Koyunlu amongst their ranks. The first match of the group stage will be played on Thursday the 18th of September and subsequent games will be played on the 2nd and 23rd of October, the 6th and 27th of November and the 11th of December.
