Spurs News: DeAndre Yedlin Shows His Speed

New signing shows impossible acceleration in video from MLS game.

This summer, Tottenham Hotspur signed a promising young right back from Seattle Sounders in MLS by the name of DeAndre Yedlin. The 21-year-old is a full United States international and performed admirably at this summer's World Cup - even in the face of opposition like Belgium and Chelsea's Eden Hazard - which brought him to the attention of a number of big European clubs. Spurs won the race to sign him - for around £2.5 million - and immediately loaned him back to Seattle Sounders until 2015. Last night, in the U.S. Open Cup Final, Yedlin lost the ball in the opposition half with an admittedly terrible first touch, which set opposing team Philadelphia Union away on a very unlikely and threatening counter-attack. However, instead of sitting back and watching the turmoil unfold as a result of his error, Yedlin sprinted back two-thirds of the length of the field and made up what appeared to be an impossible gap to prevent Union's number ten Cristian Maidana from getting a shot on goal. It wasn't just the speed that was so impressive, it was the tenacity of the player to correct his mistake and the determination to make up the distance. Seattle went on to win the game 3-1 and lifted the U.S. Open Cup for the fourth time in six years. The video of Yedlin's impressive sprint can be found here. Does Yedlin's speed excite Spurs fans? Can the young American push for a first-team place upon his arrival at White Hart Lane next year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
