Spurs Could Play Home Games At Ipswich Or Brighton In 2016/17

Martin Rickett/PA Wire/Press Association ImagesThe London Evening Standard is reporting that Tottenham Hotspur Football Club may have to play their home games at Ipswich Town's Portman Road or Brighton and Hove Albion's Amex Stadium in the 2016/17 campaign. Spurs and their chairman Daniel Levy have apparently resigned themselves to the fact that they will be unable to play at White Hart Lane during the final season before their long-planned move to a new ground occurs. The new stadium is a £400 million project that will see Spurs' home capacity increase by 20,000, from the current modest 36,000 to 56,000 - a capacity far more fitting of their stature and more in line with the capacities of their direct rivals in the top half of the Premier League. The club hope to be playing in their new ground in time for the start of the 2017/18 campaign and their preferred choice had been to continue playing at White Hart Lane during the preceding season, despite the fact that it would be against a backdrop of heavy building work on the new stadium - but reality has set in and that prospect is just too unrealistic, so a number of potential ground-share schemes are having to be considered. Wembley, the Olympic Stadium and stadiummk - the home of Milton Keynes Dons - had all been considered, but it has now come to light that the best options for everyone concerned are the homes of Ipswich and Brighton, despite the fact that neither ground is exactly local to North London.
