Spurs Poll: Is Eric Dier A First Team Contender?

Can the youngster make an immediate impression in Tottenham's first eleven?

Spurs won their final pre-season game on Saturday in what was Mauricio Pochettino's first game in charge at White Hart Lane. The Lilywhites saw off the challenge of Bundesliga side Schalke 04 in a 2-1 victory - goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado ensured former Spurs' player Kevin Prince-Boateng's reply was nothing more than a consolation - and one of the better things to come out of the game was the impressive performance of new signing Eric Dier. At twenty years old, Dier was purchased with the future in mind. He had already established himself in the first team of Lisbon's Sporting Clube de Portugal - and made five appearances for England's Under-21 side - but with experienced central defenders like Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson in Tottenham's ranks, and with the likes of Mateo Musacchio and Daniel Agger linked, it was very much expected that Dier would have to wait for a competitive first team appearance. However, an assured display alongside the aforementioned Kaboul at the heart of the Spurs back-line impressed the club's fans - and will, of course, have impressed Mauricio Pochettino. So, with that in mind, can the Cheltenham born defender make an impression on the first team picture sooner than expected? Vote in the poll below and feel free to elaborate in the comments section. Will he be thrown in at the deep end? Should his first team appearances be limited to the less important cup games? Should he be limited to development squad games for the time being? Have your say!
