Despite already being relatively short in numbers in the top quality striker department, Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is set to be open to the idea of no less than three of his current crop leaving in the January transfer window. Youngster Harry Kane, who is yet to make an impact at Spurs despite being a star performer at under 21 level for his country, is said to be a loan target for Swindon Town - a club where no less than three Spurs youngsters are already out on loan and performing well (Grant Hall, Alex Pritchard and Ryan Mason respectively). Kane has already been loaned out to Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City and given how well the loan policy at the club worked with the likes of Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend, this may be an ongoing developmental plan with regards to the striker. Outcast Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor is still said to be a target of Turkish giants Besiktas and Spurs will still be keen to offload the striker who has failed to live up to his billing since his permanent move from Manchester City, despite an impressive season for the White Hart Lane outfit whilst on loan from the Etihad Stadium. His enormous wages are a sticking point, however, but Spurs will be keen to get them off their wage bill. More surprisingly, perhaps, are the recent reports linking Jermain Defoe with a move to Major League Soccer's Toronto FC, for whom former Spurs defender Ryan Nelsen is currently the head coach. How keen Defoe would be on a move to a weaker league in a World Cup year is open to debate, but Nelsen had this to say on the matter:
To get a guy like Defoe for the MLS, I cannot think of many that are more suited. I think if you ask most Premier League teams, they would take Defoe. It would be incredible. I call him and text him all the time. Him playing in Toronto would be phenomenal, if you look around the world and try and think of a realistic player - and I am not sure how realistic he is - that complements a league like ours, never gets injured, doesn't drink, can play high, low, scores all sorts of goals.
If it really is the case that Spurs and Andre Villas-Boas are prepared to part ways with three of their four strikers, would this be a wise move?
