Spurs Transfer News: Lilywhites Trial Young Belgian Left-Back

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have offered a trial to young Belgian left-back Axel Frix. The 16 year old starlet is currently on the books of OH Leuven in his home country and is said to be attracting the attention of several big clubs in Belgium, including current domestic champions Anderlecht. The left-back position is one that has proven to be something of a weak area for the White Hart Lane club this season, with Benoit Assou-Ekotto being loaned out to Harry Redknapp's Queens Park Rangers, Danny Rose not convincing in his absence and the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Naughton being forced to play out of their favoured positions in Rose's injury spells. That said, Frix would not be an immediate solution to this problem at such a tender age. Spurs' Belgian contingent is already very prominent, with Nacer Chadli, Mousa Dembele and the aforementioned Vertonghen already on the payroll. The Premier League in general is also packed with Belgians who are proving successful, with players like Christian Benteke, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Vincent Kompany and Simon Mignolet all impressing in recent seasons, so making a move for a promising youngster with the same national pedigree could prove to be a wise move in the long run. The potential signing of Frix could be one of many in another summer of change at Spurs, with boss Tim Sherwood set to depart from his role and a number of previous flop signings set to leave. Should Spurs be concentrating on building for the future with signings like Axel Frix, while letting the current crop settle in, or should they be thinking bigger and more immediate with their plans?
