Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham In Pole Position To Sign Leandro Damiao

Damio Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to sign Internacional striker Leandro Damiao this summer, according to the club's president. Along with Spurs, Serie A giants Napoli have also been heavily linked with the Brazilian as part of their efforts to replace Edinson Cavani, who looks set to move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window. However, club president Giovanni Luigi has revealed it is Tottenham who are favourites for the player's signature, while also appearing to slam Napoli for allegedly speaking directly with Damiao's agent without first consulting the Brazilian giants. Spurs have long been interested in the attacker, and came very close to signing him back in January when they made a dramatic deadline day offer of £13 million, which was then rejected by Internacional. But they might have better look this time, according to Luigi.
"If a club want a player, they must talk to the president of the club at which that particular player plays, and not just deal with the agent - that is not correct behaviour. "Recently we talked with Tottenham, Leandro is very likely to play games in England in the coming year. On the other hand we can exclude Napoli."
Tottenham currently have just two senior strikers in their squad in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, and the procurement of Damaio would be a major statement of intent from the North London side, who are still vying to smash Arsenal and Chelsea's monopoly of the top four in the Premier League. Damaio's arrival may also persuade star player Gareth Bale to remain with the club, as Spurs continue their progress in the top flight.
