Spurs Transfer News: Wilfried Bony To White Hart Lane?
Ivory Coast World Cup star to swap Wales for North London?
Barrington Coombs/EMPICS SportNews is emerging from The Independent that Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have opened talks with Swansea City about the potential transfer of Ivorian World Cup star Wilfried Bony. This news comes just hours after the two clubs reportedly struck a deal, in principle at least, for the Swans' Welsh international left back Ben Davies. Bony cost Swansea £12 million when he joined from Dutch top flight side Vitesse last summer - a club for whom he scored 46 goals in 65 league appearances in the Eredivisie. The Ivory Coast star hit the ground running immediately in England, scoring 25 goals in all competions, 16 of which came in the Premier League. It is expected that the striker would cost Spurs £20 million - an £8 million profit for Swansea, who have recently signed Bafétimbi Gomis to ease the blow of Bony's potential sale. Bony scored twice in the current World Cup for the Ivory Coast, prior to their exit - notching against both Japan and Greece in the group stage - and this has only served to improve his already excellent reputation as a clinical goalscorer. Spurs struggled for goals last season, with the likes of Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela - from whom so much was expected - struggling to adapt to the Premier League in their respective opening campaigns, and Bony's signature would go a long way to making the club's fans feel more at ease about the Lilywhites' chances of pushing for a Champions League spot this coming season.
