Spurs Transfers: 10 Most Wildly Over-Priced Signings Ever

9. Roberto Soldado (£26 Million)

It is perhaps unfair to label Roberto Soldado a flop after one season - especially given that he is still at the club and could redeem himself and find his form - but, the fact is, he and at least a couple of his fellow summer 2013 signings (who were signed using the Gareth Bale money) appear to have been vastly over-priced by Spurs. Having joined from Valencia for £26 million, a lot was expected of the Spanish international. He had been a highly prolific goalscorer in La Liga for several seasons - regularly producing twenty goals or more - and had broken in to a Spain team that were dominating world football, but his first season in England was anything but prolific. Soldado scored six Premier League goals - only two of which came from open play - in addition to five in the UEFA Europa League and was generally considered to be one of the worst buys of last year. The fact that he is now 29 years old doesn't help matters, as he doesn't have too many prime years ahead of him, and he'll be hoping to improve dramatically this season (assuming he isn't sold, that is).
