Spurs Transfers: 5 Better Striking Options Than David Villa

David villa Tottenham are on the verge of signing Barcelona's David Villa, if recent reports are indeed accurate. This may have been exciting news two or three years ago, but just how wise of an investment is the injury-plagued 31-year old Nou Camp outcast? He's won it all in Spain, domestically and internationally. Among his haul from his Barcelona days is two La Liga championships, the Copa del Rey, a further two Supercopa de EspaƱa's, the UEFA Champions League and Super Cup... Oh and the FIFA Club World Cup, too. He's also Spain's all-time top goalscorer and is a World Cup and European Championship winner. But all this cannot gloss over the fact that his best days are clearly behind him. Villa has struggled for consistency at the Nou Camp since his move from Valencia back in 2010. He has been shuffled around in the starting XI just to accommodate Lionel Messi who for so long has been favoured to him and a horrendous broken leg in the 2011-12 season saw him lose his place as a regular completely, limiting him to just fifteen appearances throughout that particular campaign. You'd be forgiven for doubting just how much longevity he'd enjoy at White Hart Lane - a shrewd buy some might say, a definitely belated one agree others. Tottenham DO need at least one new striker if they are to crack the top four next season and appease the apparently departing Gareth Bale, but as we explain here, there are much better options.
