Spurs Transfers: 5 Deadline Day Signings Andre Villas-Boas Could Make

5. Fabio Coentrao

After being raided by Real Madrid for Gareth Bale this summer, Tottenham could be set to turn the tables by landing left-back Fabio Coentrao. The Portugal international has yet to make an appearances for Los Blancos this season and made only 16 outings last term, too, and has been told by manager Carlo Ancelotti that he is free to leave. Spurs want the 25-year-old on an initial loan deal, with manager Andre Villas-Boas keen to see if Coentrao can prove himself in England before committing to the £15 million fee Real are demanding for a permanent move. The arrival of the Madrid wingback would abate concerns over Benoît Assou-Ekotto, who made only 11 league appearances last season and has recently fallen out of favour under Villas-Boas.
