Spurs Transfers: 5 January Signings For Tim Sherwood

4. Kyriakos Papadopoulos

Taking Tottenham's current defensive woes into further account - the Londoners conceded five to Liverpool and six to Manchester City recently - a new centre-back also wouldn't go amiss in January. Tim Sherwood has inherited an ageing and injury-prone back-line at White Hart Lane in 30-year-old captain Michael Dawson and Younès Kaboul, who has been blighted by injuries, inconsistency and lack of fitness over the past 18 months, missing all but one game of last season. If Spurs are to put their leaky defensive record behind them, Sherwood is going to need to overhaul his central defence, and may look into signing Kyriakos Papadopoulos, the highly-rated Greek youngster who is also wanted by Liverpool. Papadopoulos is renowned for his no-nonsense style of play, and despite his robust frame, is also nimble on the ball and good with a pass. His stats for the 2011€“12 season were particularly impressive - from his 37 attempted tackles in the German topflight that term, he was successful in 36, and the composure he brings to the table could be just what Spurs need in these troubling times.
