Spurs Transfers: 5 Players To Replace Gareth Bale

2. Gonzalo Higuain

Higuain Admittedly neither wingers nor indeed midfielders are the final two options on this list - but given the fact Gareth Bale was Tottenham's top goalscorer last season and the third highest in the Premier League behind only Luis Suarez and Robin van Persie - it is evident that Spurs are going to need a player capable of scoring goals if Bale quits, and the following two players certainly meet that criteria. Gonzalo Higuain will be sold by Real Madrid this summer and could even be used in part-exchange in any cash-plus-player offer for Bale this summer. That would seem to solve Spurs' immediate problems in finding themselves a proven goalscorer to replace Bale, and could also help soften the blow of the Welshman's departure - albeit just a little. The 25-year old Argentinian scored 19 goals in 44 overall appearances last season and also created 9 assists for his side, and with injury-prone Jermain Defoe and the under-performing Emmanuel Adebayor the only striking options currently available to Villas-Boas, the procurement of Higuain would provide him with a stronger front line.
