Spurs Transfers: 5 Southampton Players Mauricio Pochettino Should Sign For Tottenham

2. Dejan Lovren

Signed by Southampton last summer for around £8 million, Dejan Lovren went on to have a solid debut season in the Premier League. A tall centre back, who is comfortable playing out from the back, the Croat suited Pochettino€™s philosophy at Southampton of starting attacks from the back. At 24 years of age, Lovren would represent a good investment for Tottenham as they would be signing a player with his best years ahead of him. A product of the famous Dinamo Zagreb academy, which also produced such talents as Luka Modric and Alen Halilovic, Lovren has enjoyed a steady progression throughout his career to the point where he is now a regular for the national side. Southampton€™s signing of him last summer took many by surprise, with the centre back trading seven-time French champions Lyon for the Saints. It was also a shock because prior to his move, other big clubs had been looking at the Croat and this summer it appears to be no different, with Liverpool reportedly interested. For Tottenham, the signing of Lovren would make sense. Not only because of how he thrived under Pochettino last season, but due to the uncertainty surrounding Jan Vertonghen. The former Ajax man has said he intends to stay, but with Barcelona lurking that may well change. The signing of Lovren would go someway to easing that loss and provide Spurs with a centre back who has proven himself in the Premier League.
