Spurs Transfers: Ranking Villas Boas' Signings From Worst To Best
6. Etienne Capoue - £9 Million From Toulouse
Certain fans didn't even envisage the holding midfielder would be a Spurs player, but an opportunistic Daniel Levy forked something in the region of £9 million for Capoue after his protracted move to Cardiff broke down due to difficulties negotiating personal terms with the Welsh side. Signed from Toulouse, Capoue was handed his debut as a substitute in the opening day victory against Crystal Palace before being a starting berth for the following week's 1-0 triumph over Swansea. Another start followed against Arsenal, but, unfortunately, he was stretchered off with what conspired to be a sprained ankle that will rule him out for a month. And that hands out the opportunity for the likes of Moussa Dembélé, Sandro or Paulinho to perform well in Capoue's absence in his central midfield position. This may leave Villas Boas with a big dilemma regarding the personnel in the centre of the park and he may decide that one of the aformentioned trio have performed well enough to hold down a starting berth, leaving Capoue potentially benched and struggling to impose himself on games.
