Spurs vs Norwich - 5 Areas Where The Game Was Won & Lost

3. Van Wolfswinkel Lacks Bite Against Dawson And Vertonghen

Norwich spent big on new strikers this summer. Out went Grant Holt, in came Gary Hooper (who made the bench for the first time this season after picking up an injury in pre-season) and van Wolfswinkel. While the Dutch signing from Sporting Lisbon looks to be more mobile than Holt, and scored a good header against Everton on matchday 1, it is clear he is not yet up to the task of being the lone target man. Physically, he was dominated by Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghen, getting no change out of the Tottenham centre backs in the air, nor finding much luck with the ball at his feet. Norwich's two chances both fell to van Wolfswinkel and both times he was thwarted by challenges from Danny Rose, and even then the chances only came to him with a bit of luck €“ a deflected shot in the first half from eight yards out as a result of a Redmond cross needed Vertonghen to slip over first, while his chance in the dying moments of the game came when a shot deflected into his path. If Hughton wanted his front man to offer a pivot for his attack then he overestimated his man's ability. That's not to write off van Wolfswinkel, but he certainly needs more time to adapt to the Premier League.
