Spurs Willing To Let Assou-Ekotto Leave For Free
Cameroon defender no longer needed at White Hart Lane.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are willing to let their Cameroon international left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto leave the club on a free transfer. Assou-Ekotto, who was loaned out to Harry Redknapp's Queens Park Rangers in the Championship last season, has been pushed down the pecking order by both the arrival of Ben Davies from Swansea City and Danny Rose's emergence last year - the latter of whom has recently signed a new five year contract. The left back has one year left on his contract at White Hart Lane, but Spurs are willing to cut their losses as they streamline their squad under new boss Mauricio Pochettino - particularly as he disgraced himself at the World Cup this summer by head-butting a team-mate on the pitch during Cameroon's defeat to Croatia in the group stages. Assou-Ekotto, who has 22 international caps in total, has made 155 Premier League appearances and 50 more in other competitions for Spurs since joining from French club Lens in 2006 and he was something of a fan-favourite for a while - thanks largely to his personality off the pitch - but a string of poor performances saw him lose his place and the fans have lost a lot of respect for him since his World Cup exploits. What do you think about Assou-Ekotto's situation at Spurs? Should the club be getting rid of him? If so, should it be for free or should they try to get something for him? Should they actually be keeping him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. And please feel free to follow me on Twitter!
