Team News
No further action will be taken against Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan after his controversial tackle against Manchester City on Saturday, meaning he will be free to play for the Potters. Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is set to return after making way for Thomas Sorensen in that same encounter. Wigan are set to recall the majority of their first-team regulars after making eight changes in the game against Macclesfield, but defender Antolin Alcaraz is not yet fit. Fraser Fyvie is also doubtful.
Match Preview
Neither side are in good form at present; Stoke were dumped out of the FA Cup at the weekend in a tame encounter with Manchester City, and whilst January has seen Wigan progress through the third and fourth rounds of the FA Cup, they are without a Premier League win this month. Stoke however are relatively secure in tenth place, neither impressing with their ambition nor in any sort of relegation scrap. Wigan on the other hand are in serious trouble - floundering in 19th place and in danger of being cut off from those above, three points would be more important for the Latics than the Potters.
