Sunderland New Boy Loving Life In The States

From Celtic to Sacramento, Adam Matthews is settling in just fine.

Adam Matthews is loving every minute gelling with the Sunderland squad, and can€™t wait to get some much-needed game time under his belt as the season draws closer.

The 23-year-old full back has been quick to emphasise the importance of fitness ahead of the long season, and after a long trek, it will be a relief for Matthews to step back onto a football pitch.

Sunderland take on Sacramento Republic on Tuesday night, and the Welshman can expect to see plenty of action at Bonney Field when the two sides meet.

Matthews told SAFC.com: €œTraining in the warm weather is tough but that€™s to be expected €“ even more so after a long day of travelling.

€œIt was more about stretching and getting our legs going. I€™m sure that will change the longer the tour goes on and after we get a couple of games under our belt it will all add to our fitness.

"Of course it will be a tough first game after all of the travelling, but that€™s what it€™s all about, getting back into the swing of everything.

€œWe know there€™s not too much pressure on the result with it being a friendly, but as a footballer you want to win every game and do the best you can - the overall aim of course is fitness.€
