Sunderland Transfer News: Louis Saha Set To Sign?

Are Sunderland about to finally land a striker this summer?

Are Sunderland about to finally land a striker this transfer window? Black Cat fans are taking to Twitter this afternoon with claims that they have spotted out of contract striker Louis Saha at the Sunderland Academy, presumably ahead of a possible move to the Stadium of Light as Martin O'Neill looks to solve his striker crisis ahead of the weekend Premier League opener against Arsenal. Sunderland were first linked with interest in Saha in June but at the time it sounded like the former Manchester United, Fulham and Everton striker was going to play the waiting game before seeing who else came in for him. Now that we are just days before the end of the season, Saha's best option looks to be Sunderland. The former French international who turned 34 last week, most recently spent six months at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of Harry Redknapp's reign after a tree transfer move from Everton. He is an experienced Premier League striker, ironically starting his English footballing career at Sunderland's bitter North East rivals Newcastle United in a brief loan spell in 1998. He possess bags of experience, twice winning the Premier League at Old Trafford and also the Champions League and has scored a career total of 117 in 367 games. Sunderland have spent the summer pursuing Wolves striker Steven Fletcher with reported bids of around £12 million rejected by the Championship side. With only a handful of recognised strikers on the Sunderland team-sheet and no replacements brought in for Asamoah Gyan or Nicklas Bendtner (who was on loan last season from The Gunners), Black Cat fans will be thankful that the club look to be on the verge of bringing somebody in, especially a player with proven pedigree.
