Out of contract striker Louis Saha is close to joining Sunderland on a free transfer, according to The Mirror. Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill is said to be winning the race for the former French international who failed to win a permanent contract at Tottenham Hotspur after spending the second half of the season at White Hart Lane, having ended a three-year spell at Everton. The former Manchester United and Fulham forward also spent a brief loan spell at Newcastle United early in his career but O'Neill isn't concerned by his former Toon past as few Sunderland fans will remember that and O'Neill needs to strengthen his numbers up front on a tight budget. Saha has bags of experience, twice winning the Premier League at Old Trafford and also the Champions League and has scored a career total of 117 in 367 games. Saha will turn 34-years-old before the start of next season but still believes he has something to give to England's top division and is expected to turn down offers from foreign clubs and in the Middle-East for another season in the Premier League. He has struggled with injuries lately but he still managed three goals in nine games at Spurs, many of which were substitute appearances.
