As high as full backs and strikers are on Sunderland's wish list at the moment, the priority remains a quality centre back. Wes Brown and John O'Shea are certainly not getting any younger, while Santiago Vergini and Sebastian Coates have been notoriously error prone throughout their loan spells so far. If Ellis Short is willing to break the bank for a top young centre back, he could do far worse than Celtic's Virgil van Dijk. The towering Dutchman has already sparked talk of a Premier League switch after impressing north of the border, and with a reported £10,000,000 price tag, seems just within Sunderland's budget. Of all the potential players who could appear at the Stadium of Light next season, van Dijk is definitely the most exciting prospect.
