Sunderland's 10 All-Time Premier League Goal Scorers
2. Darren Bent (2009-2011) - 32 Goals
Oh, what could have been. Times were exciting for Sunderland when they signed Darren Bent in 2009. The England international was scoring for fun - finishing with 24 league goals in 38 appearances in his debut season. The fans adored him and his goalscoring antics. They were even treated to an assist from a beachball against Liverpool at the Stadium of Light. Then, he got greedy. Aston Villa came in with a big-money offer in January 2011, prompting Bent to hand in a transfer request. Villa were reportedly willing to offer him a significant wage-rise, and Bent accepted. There was uproar on Wearside, and the striker went from cult-hero to money-grabbing traitor overnight. Sunderland fans had the last laugh, however, with Bent's career struggling to gather momentum ever since. He left Wearside with 32 goals in just 58 games, making him second to only one player in the club's history.
