Sunderland's 2006/07 Promotion Squad - Where Are They Now?

ST - David Connolly

Despite scoring 13 league goals in Sunderland's successful 2007/08 season, Connolly found himself completely out of the first team in their first season back in the Premier League. The Irish international made only three appearances in his following two years at the Stadium of Light, before becoming a free agent in the summer of 2009. He then dropped down to League 1 to sign with Southampton, a team he helped to promotion in just his second season. However, his fortunes again took a turn for the worse after joining fierce rivals Portsmouth, a team with whom Connolly was relegated to League 2. After a pair of short, uneventful spells at Oxford United and AFC Wimbledon, he called time on a 21 year playing career in March 2015.
