Despite playing an important role on Roy Keane's left flank in 2007/08, Wallace found himself out of favour with the Irishman during life in the Premier League. He subsequently spent two seasons at Preston North End, before returning to the Premier League with Burnley. He received a warm reaction upon his return to the Stadium of Light last season (a game Sunderland won 2-0), but Burnley were eventually relegated and Wallace left earlier this summer. He has just signed a deal with Sheffield Wednesday.
