Sunderland's 2006/07 Promotion Squad - Where Are They Now?
Substitute - Dwight Yorke
Perhaps the most curious aspect of Sunderland's promotion season was Roy Keane's decision to sign 34 year old former teammate Dwight Yorke from Sydney FC, and deploy him in a midfield berth for the majority of his appearances. The Yorke experiment was (somehow) a success, but he made only 27 appearances in two Premier League seasons, proving that age was perhaps finally catching up with him. He was released in 2009, and has since returned home to Tobago where he is taking an active role in improving the island's quality of life.
