Sunderland's 2006/07 Promotion Squad - Where Are They Now?

CM - Dean Whitehead

Club captain Dean Whitehead was an instrumental part of Sunderland's 2006/07 triumph. playing all but one game over the course of the Championship campaign. He continued to feature heavily in Roy Keane's Premier League squad, operating as either a makeshift right back or a natural central midfielder. His good form caught the eye of Stoke, who signed him in 2009. Whitehead's time at Stoke was not quite as happy. He lost his place in the first team and was usually limited to substitute appearances, although one of these did come in the 2011 FA Cup Final (which was eventually lost to Manchester City). He also made several Europa League appearances, but moved back down to the Championship to sign with Middlesbrough in 2013. He was released at the end of last season, and has recently signed a two-year contract with Huddersfield.
