John Oster was a promising young prospect when he arrived at the Stadium of Light in 1999, but found his next six years blighted by injury troubles and various loan spells to lower-tier teams. Capable of supporting the attack from the wing or a deeper midfield role, Oster could have been so much more. Instead he enjoyed just one uninterrupted season at Sunderland, their failed bid for promotion in 2003/4, and is hardly remembered with any great fondness on Wearside. Where Is He Now: Surprisingly for a player blighted with so many injuries at a young age, Oster has proven himself a very capable lower-league playmaker, excelling in a midfield role for Doncaster, Barnet and Gateshead over the years.
