Obviously Joe Calzaghe has been retired for some time and that makes this fight an impossibility at this stage, but stranger things have happened in boxing. The Welshman hung up his gloves in 2008 with a perfect record from 46 fights. Given this sensational record, there is no real need for Calzaghe to drag himself out of retirement, but he could be tempted into doing it for a stellar offer. Froch wanted to fight Calzaghe when he was making big waves on the British domestic seen around 2006. Joe was not interested in the fight as he was taking on legends of the sport at that stage of his career and did not want to get involved with boxers of lesser standing. There is no question that Froch is now a superstar of the sport and he is coming close to challenging Calzaghes legacy. The Englishman will never be able to rival the Welshmans unbeaten record, but he will claim to be on a similar standing in the sport. Calzaghe could just be tempted to come out of retirement and try to prove that he is the greatest super middleweight to come out of Britain. He is only six years Frochs senior, so it is not entirely out of the question. The spectacle would be huge in this country and could well outstrip the interest that was created by Froch v Groves II.
