Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News: Real Madrid Make £40 Million Bid

Real Madrid have reportedly made a bid of more than £40 million for Tottenham Hotspur's star midfielder Luka Modric.

The Telegraph. The offer is likely to be accepted by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy who now feels the time is right to sell the unsettled 26-year-old Croatian international. Earlier this week, new Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas confirmed that Modric was likely to leave White Hart Lane this summer and at the same time confirmed interest in signing his former star at FC Porto, Joao Moutinho as a replacement. A deal for Modric's sale to Real is expected to be confirmed by next week, despite strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. The player himself is thought to prefer a move to La Liga, paving the way for Jose Mourinho to confirm his number 1 summer priority. Meanwhile one incoming at White Hart Lane is Belgium international centre-half Jan Vertonghen who completed his move to Spurs today. The former Ajax giant had been closely watched by Arsenal and Newcastle United but it is Tottenham that won his services, making him the second signing of the summer alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson, who similarly turned down an interest from Liverpool to come to London.
