Tottenham Transfer News: Andy Carroll To White Hart Lane?

Spurs home in on Liverpool's striker to spruce up their front line.

Caught Offside. Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas acknowledges the weak front-end of his team, and is looking to spruce it up with the signing a new centre forward and Carroll would appear to fit the bill. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers appears to be putting up no fight to retain the services of the England international, and was glad for the planned loan to West Ham to take place, before Carroll himself rejected the offer from the newly promoted side yesterday in favour of moving to a club who can offer European football. Tottenham's only current recognised forward is Jermain Defoe, but Villas-Boas would do well to outfit himself with some more sure bets, given their dearth of like-minded players after the side had to resort to bringing in Emmanuel Adebayor on loan from Man City last term. Adebayor's pay dispute with Spurs prevented them signing him as a permanent fixture, and leaves a gap for Carroll, who proved himself useful for England during Euro 2012, even if his early seasonal work for Liverpool was anything but stellar. Along with new blood Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Carroll would be a significant signing for the squad, albeit one that may have to come at the expense of Luka Modric, who seems a likely sale prospect anyway.
