TWO Newcastle Players Fly Away To Complete Medicals Ahead Of Moves

Cabella and Abeid are inching closing to the St James' Park exit.

Remy Cabella and Mehdi Abeid have visited Marseille and Athens respectively looking to complete medicals ahead of their moves away from Newcastle United. The Shields Gazette claim Abeid flew out to Greece in order to finalise his move to Panathinaikos on Tuesday but has since returned to Tyneside, while various reports state that Cabella did likewise when he headed for Marseille on the same day. Cabella's move is part of the £14 million deal to bring Florian Thauvin to Tyneside, while Abeid is returning to a club he spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan at.

Cabella endured a difficult first season in the Barclays Premier League, netting just once, and he looks set to return to France for a loss. It was claimed last summer when the midfielder moved to the North East from Montpellier that Newcastle had paid £12 million for his services - at the time a record outlay of the Mike Ashley era. Abeid, meanwhile, impressed during his time at Panathinaikos, scoring 10 goals in 38 appearances and helping them claim the Greek Cup in 2013-14, and the Greek club want to add greater strength to their squad for this season. Last season, Abeid played 16 times for the Magpies - including on 13 occasions in the Premier League - but Steve McClaren€™s arrival seems to have put an end to his Newcastle United career.
