UEFA Taking Action Against Manchester United
According to BBC Sport, UEFA has started disciplinary proceedings against Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United side after they lost 2-1 at home to Real Madrid (3-2 over the two legs). UEFA are apparently wanting to take action over the aftermath of Nani's red card which has been a huge talking point in the game, as well as Manchester United not participating in a post-match interview at Old Trafford last night. Nani's 54th minute high footed challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa meant the Portugese winger saw the red card, to the shock of his teammates, both managers and apparently 75,000 fans that were in attendance. Rio Ferdinand was one of many players harassing referee, Cuneyt Cakir, after the final whistle and could also be punished. Ferguson on the other hand was seen charging to question the fourth official within seconds of the Turkish ref brandishing the red card. Despite the pleas of Ferguson and the Manchester United squad, Nani saw red, ten minutes after that and Real Madrid were 2-1 up. Rules state that teams from both sides of any match should be represented before and after the game regardless of any outcome. With neither Sir Alex Ferguson or Mike Phelan not taking part in a post-match interview they have technically broke the rules, and should be punished.
