UFC: 10 Controversial Moments Between Chael Sonnen & Wanderlei Silva

3. Sonnen Explodes In Interview With Ariel Helwani

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru6v16iB0C4 Ariel Helwani has conducted several memorable interviews. His interview with Sonnen before UFC 132 was amongst those memorable interviews. It was before Silva's fight against Chris Leben, which Sonnen was in attendance for. While he took several shots at Brazil, he did focus his attention on Silva on this occasion. He held no punches, as he stated that Silva wouldn't sign the contract to fight him, if the cameras were rolling. That's what led to the infamous line of him saying "Silva is an immigrant from Brazil, while I'm a gangster from America". It was all for him to showcase how to threaten someone. While Sonnen's popularity grew dramatically before his first title fight against Anderson Silva, it was this interview that put him on another level of being a commodity. This was also the beginning of Sonnen's repetitive diatribes of how Pride was fake and how their referees had earpieces to receive directions on how to call the fight. It was Sonnen's first major interview following his year-long suspension, due to failing the post fight drug test after his hard-fought loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117. After calling out Wanderlei Silva for pretending to not speak English and pretending to still live in Brazil, it capped off a controversial yet memorable interview. This moment tends to be forgotten about it, due to it occurring a few years ago. This is a must-watch interview, if you haven't seen it.
