UFC: 10 Reasons Jon Jones Went From Good Guy To Bad Guy

1. Originally Refusing Alexander Gustafsson Rematch

Jon Jones Vs Alex Gustafsson Alexander Gustafsson gave Jon Jones the toughest fight of his life when they first fought at UFC 165 in Sept. 2013. Up until that point Jones had run through his competition like a hot knife through butter, but the reach, height, striking and wrestling of Gustafsson posed problems for the champ he was not used to, or seemed adequately prepared for. And although Jones was awarded the unanimous decision win, he was sent to the hospital on a stretcher after the fight. Fans and the UFC brass clamored for a rematch between the two, but it would have to wait. Jones had Glover Teixeira to deal with next, and he dominated him easily in April of this year. Gustafsson faced Jimi Manuwa next and finished him via TKO in the second round. The stars had lined up and it was time for a rematch of what has been called one of the greatest fights in UFC history. There was just one problem... Jones didn't want it. Instead, he said he would rather fight the no. 2 guy next, Daniel Cormier. Jones also released a video to the fans who accused him of ducking Gustafsson. "Asking for an undefeated Olympic wrestler, Strikeforce champion, somehow makes me a coward," Jones asked. "How about the fact I beat Gustafsson already, whether you guys like how close it was or not? It's my career, not yours." The UFC and Jones finally were able to sit down and hash things out and Jones agreed to the rematch, but not before the champ pissed off a lot of people. Remember, he'd already caused one event to get canceled by refusing to fight Chael Sonnen at UFC 151, now this. When you're considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, all eyes are on you. Not everyone is going to love you and some have suggested that Jones embrace his heel role. And although he hasn't exactly embraced it, you can bet it won't be long before we see that side of him again.
