UFC: 10 Reasons Jon Jones Went From Good Guy To Bad Guy

10. Great Fighter

http://youtu.be/BTyghESVW8U Jon Jones was just 21-years-old and had only been fighting professionally for three months when he made his UFC debut in 2008. However, the Rochester, New York native and junior collegiate wrestling champion had already amassed a 6-0 record, then went on to score a unanimous decision win over undefeated IFL veteran Andre Gusmao at UFC 87 in his Octagon debut. The first real sign Jones was something special for UFC fans was in his second UFC bout, against Ultimate Fighter season 1 pioneer Stephan Bonnar at UFC 94. Most remembered Bonnar at the time for his historic battle against Forrest Griffin in the TUF 1 Finale. Bonnar was a warrior, a BJJ and Tae Kwon Do black belt whose only losses in the UFC were to Griffin and Rashad Evans. But Jon Jones made Bonnar look amateur. It was a complete annihilation and fans knew then and there they were looking at a different kind of athlete. Jones went on to run through established and respected MMA veterans, and became the youngest champion in UFC history when he stopped legend Mauricio "Shogun" Rua via technical knockout at UFC 128. It had taken Jones just three years to claim the throne in the world's premiere mixed martial arts organization. The scary thing was, he was just getting started. Aside from a controversial disqualification loss against Matt Hamill in 2009, in a bout in which he was winning easily, Jones remains undefeated and has overcome every opponent the UFC has thrown at him. The list of opponents he has not only beaten, but completely dominated, reads like a who's who. With 13 wins inside the UFC Octagon, Jones finished nine of them via stoppage. And out of his four UFC fights that went the distance, only Alexander Gustafsson even gave him a real test.

I still watch the whole series "The Sopranos" through at least a couple times a year. The first book I ever bought was on Astral Projection. I went to college in Las Vegas and have rode a skateboard most my life. Have a dog named Riley. I've also written about MMA daily since 2008. Find me on the Tweeter @PROMMA.
